+++++++
Over Rated: New Year’s Eve.

This from Phil Mushnick’s always excellent column in the NY Post: Cruel but fair: Reader Bill Maroney: “How could FOX remove Harold Reynolds when he hasn’t finished analyzing the botched run-down play that occurred in the sixth inning of Cleveland-Detroit on June 7?”
+++++++
World of Difference: Take any classic Sinatra song…compare it to a song that passes for a hit today.

No kidding: It is far easier to appear youthful than it is to appear wise.
+++++++
Fast Break: If the Philadelphia 76ers played the Washington Generals…I’d take the Generals and give the points.

TV Timeout: Good for A&E to rescue “Unforgettable” and bring new episodes at 10 PM on Fridays. I have impure thoughts about Poppy Montgomery.

Give Me a Break: The “ Hoodie Footie”---really---has it come to this?
+++++++
Movie BIZ: The other night I watched “The Guns of Navarone.” Don’t know how many times I have seen it…but it is somewhere in triple digits. For a 158 minute movie, it is incredibly taut and tight…not a wasted minute. The prologue narration by James Robertson Justice is magnificent. The line, “And the men on Keros were doomed” always give me chills. The soundtrack by Dimitri Tiomkin is among the best Here's the link to the intro.
+++++++
Current Events: Happy to report that Tiger Woods is now ranked #416.
+++++++
Hoop It Up: NCAA Men’s Basketball, #5 UVA gets the second fewest offensive possession per game out of the 351 D1 teams. That’s doing more with less.
+++++++
Imagine That: Just because there is a lot of action doesn’t mean that anything is getting done. Sorta reminds me of the record biz.
+++++++
Total BS: How sincere and legit is the NBA anti-gun campaign? Difficult to take this seriously from the league that does tons of cross-promotions with the crude, coarse, life-threatening, violence-promising rappers.
+++++++
Guilty Pleasure: Happy to report that Johnny Depp and Ben Affleck are on Forbes.com’s list of overpaid actors, as measured by ticket sales compared to their salaries.
+++++++
Truism: The people who have figured out how to beat the system on collecting unemployment and welfare are usually the ones who do not deserve it.
+++++++
Not Up For Discussion: Lefty Driesell should have been inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame long ago.
+++++++
Quote: “I’m against corporal punishment, except for people who refuse to move at a green light because they are texting.”—David Wilkner.
+++++++
Flashback: Raymond Berry was the first coach of the Patriots to take them to back-to-back playoff berths.
+++++++
Highway Robbery: Can any contract a baseball free agent signs really surprise you anymore?
+++++++
English 101: Attention sports announcers and political pundits---If you do not know the definition of the word “literally,” don’t use it.
+++++++
More Movie BIZ: Watched a portion of 1958’s “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof.” Elizabeth Taylor in vivid color at her peak. Never before or since has there been a woman more beautiful.
+++++++
Numbers game: All schools in the ACC, Big East, Big 12 and PAC-12 are over .500 going into college basketball’s conference play.
+++++++
Final Thought: Christmas lights never get old.
+++++++

That is all.
