Curmudgeon in the Wry 557

Wednesday, December 18, 2013---860 Words---
Average Reading Time: 3 Minutes, 3 Seconds. (A pointless waste of time---time frittered away)
Offending readers and hindering productivity one issue at a time since 2001.
Continuing to call them as I see them.
Virtually free of original ideas.
Warning: Contains unsound bites from the apple of life.
Often wrong…never in doubt.
If you want this in a different language…move to a country that speaks it!
Gluten Free.
Completely biased.
Don’t forget to floss.
Low carb.

Rave: Del Vikings.
+++++++
Reading: “Odds On” by Michael Crichton, writing as John Lange.
+++++++
On the Hi Fi: “Phil Woods Live.”
+++++++
Under rated: Deana Martin.
+++++++
Rave: As usual TCM’s “TCM Remembers” is beautifully done and quite moving. I am most saddened by the loss of Annette and Dale Robertson.
+++++++
Thought for the day: A compromise is never a permanent fix for anything.
+++++++
Didjaknow: Anchovies are what give Worcestershire Sauce its distinctive flavor.
+++++++
My word: Never believe any ad that contains the phrase, “it pays for itself.”
+++++++
TV Time Out: “Mob City” got much better in episodes three and four. Robert Knepper as Sid Rothman is superb…just an incredible villain…a standout performance. Looking forward to episodes five and six tonight.
The Merry-Go-Round shootout was simply spectacular.
+++++++
Just asking: When was the last time you checked the pressure in your spare tire?
+++++++
Truism: If Lenny Bruce were alive today…nobody would even notice.
+++++++
Hmmm: Ever noticed that the more things that get deregulated, the more regulated we become.
+++++++
Hmmm: Ever wonder who wore those bowling shoes before you?
+++++++
Truism: Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
+++++++
Rant: It’s impossible for me to take a grown man with an earring seriously.
+++++++
What say you?: I continue to do it, but do you think it makes any difference when you keep your batteries in the freezer? Or is that just another old wives’ tale? What about storing unexposed film in the freezer?
+++++++
TV Time Out II: Anything is possible on “The Blacklist.” I would love to see more of Mr. Kaplan.
+++++++
Rave: Every Christmas song sounds better when Dean Martin is the vocalist.
+++++++
Moron of the month: Scientology poster child, Tom Cruise, recently disclosed that his job (acting), is every bit as tough as being a soldier in Afghanistan.
Earth to Tom: Not even close.
Now, what’s really tough is sitting through a Tom Cruise movie.
+++++++
Ever wonder: Why are atheists always angry with religious people…but the reverse isn’t true.
+++++++
Truism: Veronica Lake never had a bad hair day.
+++++++
Quote: “The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets.”—Will Rogers.
+++++++
TV Time Out III: I find myself drawn into all the webs in “Person of Interest” and gladly suspend disbelief. The plot twists are set up magnificently. The Machine is a mysterious intelligence with plans uncomfortably beyond the understanding of its creator.
With the murder of Detective Carter and the police corruption story line solved…Shaw, Root and the Machine should gain bigger roles. There will be greater conflict from the various factors that would want to control, liberate or destroy the Machine.
The return of former enemies and characters is always a treat.
Just who is a bigger threat to The Machine: Control or Vigilance?
Minus the homicidal streak and borderline insanity, Finch actually does have a lot in common with Root.
Next new episode comes up on January 7, 2014.
“POI” is one smart show that keeps getting smarter. It never settles on standard…it keeps you excited and eager to see what’s next.
“If they don’t want you to get inside, they ought to build it better.”
+++++++
Rave: Girls with guns are very sexy.
+++++++
Quote: “Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.”—Oscar Wilde.
+++++++
Rant: The only time obama is the smartest guy in the room is when he’s locked in a closet…alone.
+++++++
I still say: The Lottery is a tax on people who are poor at math.
+++++++
Hmmm: Has anyone you know ever worn out a hammer?
+++++++
Rave: The YoshiBlade is far and away the finest knife I have ever owned.
+++++++
Quote: “Nelson Mandela is a leader who obama should try to emulate. He could start by spending 27 years in prison.” — Don Imus
+++++++
Rant: 35 Bowl games are many too many. How about that Gildan New Mexico Bowl, featuring Washington State (6-6) vs. Colorado State (7-6)…that’ll be a grabber.
All but a handful of the 35 games are carried on an ESPN channel…not a good time of the year to be a college football fan without cable.
+++++++
TV Time Out: If I have no rooting interest in either team when watching a college basketball game, I cheer for the team with the fewest tattoos.
+++++++
Truism: Ice tongs are nowhere near as good as fingers.
+++++++
Final Thought: When asked what he learned from Jim Leyland in Detroit, new Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon replied, "I learned how to smoke cigars in my underwear."
