Curmudgeon in the Wry 425

3/2/09---584 Words---Average Reading Time: 2 Minutes, 19 Seconds. (A pointless waste of time---time frittered away)
A Life in the Slow Lane Production.
Offending readers and hindering productivity one issue at a time since 2001.
Virtually free of original ideas.
Often wrong…never in doubt.
+++++++
Rave: Rick Santelli…the Thomas Paine of cable news.
+++++++
Reading: “Spade and Archer” by Joe Gores.
+++++++
On the Hi Fi: “The Very Best of Artie Shaw.”
+++++++
Under rated: Doris Day. She could sing, dance and act equally well in comedy and drama.
+++++++
Happy Birthday: It was seventy years ago today that John Ford’s “Stagecoach” was released. His first filmed in Monument Valley. A wonderful ensemble cast in the film that vaulted John Wayne to stardom.
+++++++
Quote: “As ‘Stagecoach’ celebrates its 70th birthday, John Ford’s potent brand of civilizational confidence remains as valuable as ever, defiantly crying ‘Hold it’ in the face of a modern, decadent Hollywood seemingly hell-bent on driving our heritage and values out of America’s popular culture.” —Leo Grin in National Review.
+++++++
Rave: The “Coffee for the Troops” ongoing promotion at Starbucks. Seems a small thing to do for the men and women protecting us from the Islamic Terrorists. God Bless them.
+++++++
Huh?: The NY Yankees announced that 600 obstructed-view seats in their brand new stadium have been reduced in price from $12 to $5. Great---but what are obstructed-view seats doing in a 21st century stadium?
+++++++
Eye test: There is no missing the University of Maryland men’s basketball when they wear their canary jerseys.
+++++++
Welcome back: While I wish Tiger well in his comeback from a wicked knee injury, I have had little or no interest in professional gold since the days of Arnold Palmer, Doug Sanders and “Terrible” Tommy Bolt.
+++++++
By the way: Before we turn LeBron James into the next Michael Jordan, let’s wait until he wins a title.
+++++++
Rant: You know they are running out of burned-out celebrities when Andrew Dice Clay and Dennis Rodman are part of the new show, “Celebrity Apprentice.”
+++++++
Good idea: In order to avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables, get someone else to hold the vegetables while you chop.
+++++++
Truism: Some people are like Slinkies. They are not good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
+++++++
Downward mobility: Let’s see…in 45 years, we have gone from the Beatles to the Jonas Brothers in the teen-idol department.
+++++++
Rant: I'm old enough to remember when snake oil only cost a dollar. Now it's $800 billion.
+++++++
Slow game: In Big Ten conference games this season, only thee teams have scored more than 80 points…two came in one game when Ohio State beat Indiana 93-81. Purdue is the other team to break the barrier. Boring!
+++++++
The obamateur hour: obama nominated Tim “Indispensable” Geithner and Tom “Home James” Daschle to cabinet positions, two men whose enthusiasm for the size of the federal budget is in inverse proportion to their desire to contribute to it---until caught, of course.
+++++++
Didjaknow: In MLB, there have been only fourteen Triple Crown winners since 1900. Carl Yastrzemski was the last to do it…32 years ago.
+++++++
Quote: “Life’s lessons are often painful, but, instead of letting citizens learn from their mistakes, the Democrats keep bailing them out. Who pays the price? Responsible citizens who are left with no mortgage relief and higher taxes.” —Terry Paulson.
+++++++

That is all.
As you were.
