2009 NCAA Tournament--Ball Screens

The final 100 seconds of the Duke/Texas game was about as good as it gets in college basketball.

The ACC’s talk of being the nation’s best conference will continue to fall on deaf ears until they do better than the 7-7 so far in the NCAA Tournament and NIT this past week. The ACC is nowhere near the top of the food chain.

Rick Pitino has a 37-12 (.755) record in the NCAA tournament…third highest among active coaches. Coach K and Florida's Billy Donovan are numbers one and two.

For Kansas, Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins have scored 93 of the 144 points tallied in the first two rounds.

Purdue’s overall NCAA tournament record is 31-22.

Pitt advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in the past eight seasons…yet they do not have a winning percentage in the postseason. In 21 tournaments, Pitt is 20-21.

This season marks the 13th consecutive year that either Duke, UNC or both have advanced to the Sweet 16.

In the past seven tournaments, Gonzaga has beaten exactly one higher seeded team. I, of course have them beating UNC in my bracket.

Number one seeds, Pitt and Louisville were anything but overwhelming in their initial two victories.

Louisville is obviously a better team than it has shown thus far…Pitt’s Sam Young has hit as many big shots as anyone in the first two rounds.

A week ago, who would have predicted that Arizona would be the only Pac-10 team to advance to the Sweet 16?

Rave: Bob Knight is must-watch on ESPN and a natural born analyst with spot-on observations every time he talks.

I miss Billy Packer…Clark Kellogg has a firm grasp of the obvious.

Enough already of “One Shining Moment.”

Memo to broadcasters---its time to lose “are you kidding me?”

Dick Enberg’s “oh my” is still okay.

Hmmm: Why does CBS continue to call them “media time outs?” They are TV timeouts so CBS can run lotsa commercials.

Rant: Some of these teams’ short game pants have gotten so out of hand they almost reach the ankles. Purdue, especially needs a good seamstress.

Rant: Len Elmore won’t shut up about “athleticism.” What exactly does he mean? All these guys are athletes…of course, they have athleticism. Like Clark Kellogg, he too has a firm grasp of the obvious.

Worst Commercial: The faux preggo guy in drag with three sizes of nachos in a bubble container under his sweater. A great reason to stay away from Taco Bell.

Duke has won more games in this decade than any other team in any decade in NCAA history.

Duke has won more ACC titles in this decade (seven) than any team in ACC history…four is the prior high water mark.

Duke has won more NCAA Tournament games in this decade than any team except Kansas.

UNC and U-Conn have missed the Tournament twice in this decade.
